Uptown Bar-BQ: the best BBQ ribs in town
May 14, 2010
Located on Livernois Avenue in Detroit, Uptown BBQ has been a staple for many families for more than two decades. The smell of slow-cooked ribs and chicken can often be smelled emanating from the grills at Uptown a mile away, drawing in customers just by the sheer, delicious aroma. With all of that fresh barbecue smell, it seems that all patrons have to do is follow their noses to Uptown.
This carry-out restaurant is a one-stop-shop for barbecued meats and soul food. Family owned and operated, Uptown Bar BQ's most recent venture is to reinvent healthier versions of soul food favorites like collard greens, baked beans and candied yams.
Open 'til 2:30 a.m. daily, it's almost never too late to hit up Uptown for a rack of sweet, smoky ribs, chicken or shrimp. The food is served cafeteria style, so patrons can be in and out of the facility without missing a beat. Choose from favorites like pork, beef or lamb ribs, catfish, barbecued chicken, shrimp, baked beans, collard greens, fried corn, candied yams, mashed potatoes, blackeyed peas, dressing, fries, coleslaw and more. Oh, and you certainly can't miss the cornbread.
Lunch specials are offered Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. During this time, patrons can enjoy soul food platters complete with meats, sides and cornbread for just $4.99.
If you bring in your church bulletin on Sunday, you will receive 10% off your entire order. How's that for a deal?
In addition to main courses, Uptown Bar BQ also offers a truly tempting variety of sweet treats for dessert. Down-home favorites like peach cobbler, sweet potato pie and banana pudding are perfect for ending one of Uptown's finger-lickin'-good dinners.
